| Si l’Algérie a connu environ 10 000 protestations en 2011, cette année s’est surtout singularisée, la première semaine de janvier, par les émeutes dites « de l’huile et du sucre », en raison de la hausse du prix de ces produits. Cette caractérisation, parfois teintée d’ironie ou de mépris, permet de circonscrire cet événement à des causes alimentaires et fournit une explication économique, en évacuant sa dimension politique.
