I used to wonder why I see so many more bugs than most people. I easily observe hundreds to thousands of bugs per week and nothing seems to work, but most people I talk to don't see anything like this. For a long time, I thought this had something to do with how I use computers but, over time, I've realized that it's mostly that people are hitting the same bugs and don't notice.

If you're not a programmer, that's probably a better way to see the world, but I think curing quality/bug blindness is helpful for programmers. I've done this with a lot of friends and acquaintances (just by pointing out bugs). After a few weeks, people who are so inclined tend to start noticing bugs as well.

Migrating from Entity Framework 6 to Entity Framework Core

Entity Framework Core (EF Core) is stricter than Entity Framework 6 (EF 6).

To help identify potential issues, we've added several code analyzers that run when you save your BPM or Epicor Function (EF).

To assist with addressing these issues, we have added a Conversion Workbench task called EntityFrameworkCoreFix number 114, which during migration auto-fixes or provides additional diagnostics for many (but not all) compatibility issues across BPMs, Epicor Functions, Electronic Interfaces and Product Configurator.

You may see warnings related to the following issues.

  • Win32 (1985) – Still here. Still used. Petzold’s book still applies.
  • MFC (1992) – C++ wrapper on Win32. Maintenance mode. Lives in enterprise and CAD.
  • WinForms (2002) – .NET wrapper on Win32. “Available but discouraged.” Still fastest for data-entry forms.
  • WPF (2006) – XAML, DirectX-rendered, open source. No new Microsoft investment.
