I've been reflecting on the years of work that the Bakersfield Police Department has put into rebuilding trust with our community. I see community members in this chamber who have participated in advisory panels with Chief Terry and have had some really difficult conversations. I know, City Manager Clegg, you've been involved in many of those conversations to work towards rebuilding that trust and creating transparency and accountability and for me it's important that we acknowledge that that work isn't just something that gets done in a moment in time. It is a relationship and it is something that constantly needs to be massaged with the community.
