Besu CHANGELOG.md: conflict and misplaced-entry evidence

Data and scripts behind the numbers in the besu-eth/besu changelog fragments proposal. Measured from git history on 2026-11-06.

Setup

0-setup.sh builds the inputs: a blobless clone of besu-eth/besu at ./besu, with PR heads fetched as refs/pull/<n>/head into refs/pr/<n> (the 814 PRs merged since 2026-05-06) and refs/open/<n> (the 135 open PRs), plus the lists in ./data. The open PR list comes from the REST API; everything else is plain git. Run the numbered scripts from the same directory, in order. Script 1 takes the repo path and a start date: python3 1-changelog-diffs.py besu 2025-11-06.

Outstanding trace API harmonization decisions

Updated September 15, 2026. Recommendations are proposals for discussion, not an adopted standard or a vote-based correctness claim. Results apply to the pinned builds and generated fixtures; this adversarial sample is not a client-wide compatibility score.

The initial matrix used Reth 2.5.2+5a6940e3, Erigon 3.7.0-dev-c5a056d2, Nethermind 1.40.0-unstable+9cfa9cf5 and Besu 26.8.1 on one 48-block Prague chain. It contained 60 trace probes and six controls; eight trace probes were exact matches across all four. The extended pass uses the same four builds plus Reth nightly 2.5.2+95823365. The nightly predates the merged inspector fix and is not a fifth independent client vote.

What the additional coverage changes

• Query contracts now have stronger discriminators: positive nested lookup, null/one-sided filters, CREATE/SELFDESTRUCT matching, pagination and fork-boundary completeness.
