Important

Don't convert any avatars yet! VRC needs to fix this bug first.

If your avatar uses Jerry's Face Tracking Templates, here are some resources to help you convert it to the new VRC-native system without requiring any new blendshapes.

By the way, please upvote this suggestion which would make this setup far more optimized. Thank you!

Setup

  1. Remove Jerry's template from the avatar
// This uses the depth buffer. Please DON'T add lights to your avatar!!!
// If depth is missing from a world, your camera always has it. Just look through your camera.
// Intended for PC VRChat (Unity BIRP DX11)
Shader "Purpzie/Wireframe Overlay" {
Properties {
_WireframeColor ("Wireframe Color", Color) = (1, 1, 1, 1)
_BackgroundColor ("Background Color", Color) = (0, 0, 0, 1)
[Header(Rendering)] [Space]
[Enum(UnityEngine.Rendering.CullMode)] _CullMode ("Cull", Int) = 0

Realistic lighting with poiyomi

Here's my setup for realistic lighting in VRC using poiyomi.

Textures

In substance, export with the Unity HD Metallic Pipeline preset. This is the same layout expected by standard and standard lite. Poiyomi can be configured to use it.

Mask maps will look like this:

  • Red: Metallic
  • Green: Ambient Occlusion
    • This represents how much light can reach any particular area. It makes everything look better. AO can be baked in substance painter or blender. Don't put it in your base texture, just keep it in the mask map!
  • Blue: Unused (but you can put anything you want here for other effects)

Arch WSL setup guide
  1. Download archlinux-bootstrap-<version>-x86_64.tar.gz from one of the mirrors. You should verify its signature.

  2. While it's possible to import a .tar.gz into WSL, Arch's bootstrap needs to be adjusted first. Open any Linux distro that can transfer files to/from Windows. (WSL counts.)

  3. In Linux:

    # This needs to be done as root to avoid WSL permission issues.
    sudo -i

    # Extract it, cd into the folder, and compress it again.
